We understand that this is a big decision and you have a lot of questions. We’re here to help you make an educated decision before undergoing the procedure so that you can ensure the best possible outcome.
TURP, the most common treatment for BPH, is no longer your only option.
Transurethral Resection of the Prostate is currently the Gold Standard of all operations for Benign Prostatic Obstruction. However, recent advances tells us that this is not our only option. We have different procedures that come from implants like Urolift, using Water Vaper (Rezum) and one of the most common recent advancement is laser prostatectomy.
Laser prostatectomy uses different kinds of laser, this includes Greenlight, Holmium, and Thulium. All of which were found to be safe and effective in the treatment of your bothersome LUTS caused by a huge prostate.
ThuLEP is as good as or better than TURP.
Thulium:YAG Laser is one of the recent additional tools for our Urologists who handle benign prostatic enlargement. It uses extreme heat to vaporize, resect or even enucleate the whole prostate to provide better passage of urine through your urethra.
It is even indicated for patients who are using low molecular weight blood thinners and can be used for patients who have a higher risk when TURP is suggested.
With that, blood loss with laser prostatectomy maybe even less compared to TURP, and you will have a shorter hospital stay with this technology. That means your recovery would be faster and safer when doing laser prostatectomy
Laser Prostatectomy will not have the same side effects as TURP.
After the procedure, TURP would have a higher incidence of putting back the patient to the operating room due to bleeding and other complications, however, in laser prostatectomy, the incidence would be even less or just comparable to that of TURP.
Laser prostatectomy is an innovative procedure that makes it easier for you to recover and get back to your life.
Laser prostatectomy has become the most widely used surgical technique in the management of benign prostatic obstruction. Although its results are generally good, it does not require more time for recovery. But overall, it is a safe and effective procedure that can restore normality to your life.
Just remember that when it comes to medical procedures, with any luck you’ll never be in a position where you need one, but if you do, you want to know as much as you can about what’s involved beforehand. There are likely plenty of things that I didn’t cover here—and this is just a basic overview that doesn’t even get into more advanced topics about the procedure—but for now, let’s just hope that everything works out well for you.
